OUR HISTORY
EVERY FAMILY THAT HAS A CHILD WITH FASD HAS ITS OWN STORY...
2001
Our family adopted Alex (pictured top left) from Russia at the age of 2. Throughout his life, we've experienced the challenges he faced in school, socially, and at home. Noticing the lack of resources for those with FASD, Sharon Tassone (pictured center) and Nicholas Tassone (pictured top right) sought out starting a summer camp for kids affected by FASD.
2015
CAMP- A FASD Community was founded. In addition to Sharon and Nicholas, the Founding Board of Directors included:
Dr. Todd Ochs (Pediatrician, Advocate, Lurie Children’s, & Northwestern)
Ajeet Charate (Clinical Psychologist, Co-Owner of the Neurofeedback Institute)
Gordie Kaplan (President of the American Camp Association - Illinois)
2016
CAMP hosted the first summer camp in the nation specializing in serving children with FASD.
2017
CAMP became an accredited camp by the American Camp Association.
2023
As of 2023, CAMP has entered its 8th year in operation and is offering its 7th summer camp program.
2024
In 2024, CAMP hosted the largest summer camp program in our history with nearly 35 campers and over 40 staff members.
