Understanding the need

Support starts withseeing the whole person.

FASD is a spectrum of neurological, behavioral, and cognitive differences caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. People with FASD can learn and thrive when we discover what helps them learn—and make that process positive.

01

Five keys to successful support

  • Structure — provide dependable external structure
  • Consistency — respond in steady, predictable ways
  • Variety — use multiple approaches to sustain attention
  • Brevity — keep directions and instructions clear
  • Persistence — repeat what matters, with patience
01

Look for strengths

Make talents visible and encourage every person to work toward their potential.

02

Adapt the environment

The right structure makes learning more accessible.

03

Keep learning joyful

Connection and encouragement are powerful teaching tools.
